HF SM Power AB

Stockholm, Sweden

2011

After operating from their Bromma, Stockholm office for several years, the owners of HF SM Power AB finally decided to make their whole work space more efficient. They were aware that   were areas insufficiently used and at the same time they   lacked a lot of important spaces. They also realised that by replanning the office they could effectively reduce the total office area by roughly a third with out compromising their work flow. This would eventually translate to a reduction of their overhead rental expenses.

The existing single staff office rooms for example were huge at roughly 16 sqm each. This left them with inadequate space in the common area for computer servers, printers, a proper staff pantry/kitchen and a lot of  storage . By reducing the private staff rooms by almost half, space was gained for these missing areas.

There was also a special need for a dedicated central area, that was not a conference room, where the staff can have their breaks and lunches. A space  where they can also welcome visitors. This area must be conducive to any casual discussion, because as the owners explained, " a lot of problems and issues will be solved  and new ideas discovered in this area."  This is why  the heart of the whole office  in the new plan is  is Kitchen-Lounge area.

This renovation was a chance  to  modernise the office interior style by simply using more glass walls and an open plan system. An opportunity to seal down a look for HF SMPower AB. One feature that was unique for them was the stickers on the office glass partitions. I thought using  one of their projects circuit board plans as the sticker pattern would be a cool idea.

The big Test Area is now conveniently and strategically situated between the office rooms. A proper and dedicated long storage cabinet was centrally located to house the computer servers. Copy machines or printers were given proper space so as not to hinder the smooth flow of the office. A bathroom at the back was also refurbished to accommodate showers for staff who bike to work.

Overall, the easy smooth flow and openness  of the new design is what makes this renovation successful.
